Reclaimed House Table

Reclaimed House Table

The Vision

In most custom builds, we supply the wood. However, a customer reached out to us with an interesting project. She had just knocked down an old house in downtown Naperville to build her dream home. When the house was torn town, she noticed a large of amount of wood that gave her an idea. Why not take some of the wood from the old house and build a rustic table out of it?

The Outcome

Red and white oak rafters and studs were pulled from the rubble and would make the table. As we all know, things built a long time ago, were built to last. Which is great for keeping the house stable forever but not great when building a table. Reason being, all pieces of wood had a tremendous amount of very old nails, that had to be pulled.

Just pulling them all out was a project in itself. Once the nails were pulled, sanding began to glue up the tabletop. Rafters were then sanded to keep the preserve rustic wood for the legs. Finally, custom metal was fabricated for leg stability and add another detail. The table was then simply clear coated with a satin lacquer to showcase the original patina of the wood.
